You can cut a typical AI and streaming bill in half without breaking any rules: drop overlapping services, move to the lighter tier you actually need, and rotate streaming apps month by month instead of paying for all of them at once. On a common US stack of [ChatGPT](https://chat.openai.com/) Plus, YouTube Premium and Spotify, those moves alone take the bill from about $49 a month to about $24. Shared seats from resellers like GamsGo can push it lower, but they come with terms and privacy risks you should understand first.
Here is the method, step by step, with prices checked at the time of writing (October 2026).
## Why the bill crept up
Two things happened at once. AI assistants became a monthly line item for millions of people, and the big streaming and music services raised prices again in 2026. Spotify's US individual plan went from $11.99 to $12.99 on February 2026 bills, [as 9to5Google reported](https://9to5google.com/2026/01/15/spotify-us-subscribers-price-hike-all-plans-2026/), and YouTube Premium went from $13.99 to $15.99 for new US subscribers in April 2026, [according to Droid Life](https://www.droid-life.com/2026/04/10/new-youtube-premium-price-increase-is-here/). Add an AI plan and a couple of video apps and it is easy to pass $50 a month without noticing.
## Step 1: Audit what you actually pay
Open your bank or card statement, your Apple or Google Play subscriptions page and your PayPal automatic payments, and write down every recurring charge. Then for each one, ask:
- When did I last use it?
- Do I use the paid features, or would the free tier do?
- Does another subscription already cover this? (YouTube Premium includes YouTube Music, for example.)
Most people find at least one overlap and one service they forgot about.
## Step 2: Remove the overlaps
The most common overlaps:
- **Spotify and YouTube Premium together.** YouTube Premium already includes YouTube Music Premium. Keep one. Our [Spotify vs YouTube Music comparison](/blog/spotify-premium-vs-youtube-music-2026) helps you choose.
- **Two AI chatbots.** Paying for ChatGPT Plus and another assistant at the same time rarely makes sense for personal use. Our [Gemini vs GPT vs Claude subscription guide](/blog/gemini-4-argon-vs-gpt-6-vs-claude-which-ai-subscription-is-worth-it) and [ChatGPT Plus vs Claude Pro comparison](/blog/chatgpt-plus-vs-claude-pro) help you pick one.
- **Several video apps at once.** You can only watch one show at a time.
## Step 3: Right-size each plan
| Service | Full plan (US) | Lighter or cheaper official option (US) | India equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Plus $20/month | Go $8/month, or Free | Plus ₹1,999, Go ₹399 |
| YouTube | Premium $15.99/month | Lite $8.99, Student $8.99, annual $159.99/year | Premium ₹149, Lite ₹89, Student ₹89 |
| Spotify | Individual $12.99/month | Student $6.99, Family $21.99 for up to 6 at one address | Standard ₹139, Student ₹69, prepaid ₹1,390/year |

UK and EU prices differ, so check each service's local page.
A few right-sizing rules:
- **AI:** If you hit the free limits but rarely need advanced reasoning, ChatGPT Go is often enough. Our guide to [ChatGPT limits](/blog/chatgpt-limits-are-back-how-to-maximize-your-subscription-without-hitting-caps) shows how to stretch any plan.
- **Video:** If you only want fewer ads on YouTube and already have a music app, Lite is half the price of full Premium in the US.
- **Students:** Student plans are the single biggest legitimate discount on both Spotify and YouTube.
## Step 4: Rotate instead of stacking
For video streaming in particular, you do not need every service every month. Subscribe to one, watch what you wanted, cancel, and move to the next. You lose nothing but the waiting. The same applies to AI: if your heavy use is seasonal, keep Plus for the busy month and drop to Go or Free afterwards. Our step-by-step guide on [how to cancel ChatGPT](/blog/how-to-cancel-chatgpt-subscription-steps-and-alternatives) makes the downgrade painless.
Set a calendar reminder two days before each renewal date. Rotation only saves money if you actually cancel.
## Step 5: Use household and annual plans properly
Family plans are the best legitimate deal in streaming, as long as you share them with the people you live with. Spotify Family is $21.99 for up to six accounts in the US, about $3.67 each when full, and YouTube Premium Family is $26.99, about $4.50 each. Both services require members to share an address: [Spotify's household plan terms](https://www.spotify.com/us/legal/premium-promotional-offer-terms/) say members must reside at the same address and that Spotify can suspend or terminate the plan if not, and [YouTube's family help page](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/7507349) says access is paused if it cannot confirm you are in the same household.
Annual billing helps for services you know you will keep all year. YouTube Premium's US annual plan is $159.99, about $13.33 a month. In India, Spotify's prepaid year is ₹1,390, about ₹116 a month.
## Step 6: Lean on free tools where they are good enough
For AI, there are capable free options, and some run entirely on your own computer. See our [free and open-source AI roundup](/blog/free-open-source-ai-5-tools-that-replace-paid-subscriptions) and our [Ollama vs LM Studio guide](/blog/ollama-vs-lm-studio-local-llms-laptop). In India, OpenAI ran a promotion from 4 November 2025 giving eligible users 12 months of ChatGPT Go free; check in the app whether it is still offered to you.
## What the savings look like
Here is the same three-service stack, priced four ways at the time of writing.
| Stack | ChatGPT | YouTube | Music | Monthly total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| **US, full price** | Plus $20 | Premium $15.99 | Spotify $12.99 | **$48.98** |
| **US, right-sized** | Go $8 | Premium $15.99 (includes Music) | dropped | **$23.99** (51% less) |
| **US, right-sized + annual YouTube** | Go $8 | about $13.33 | dropped | **about $21.33** (56% less) |
| **US, student** | Go $8 | Student $8.99 (includes Music) | dropped | **$16.99** (65% less) |
| **India, full price** | Plus ₹1,999 | Premium ₹149 | Spotify ₹139 | **₹2,287** |
| **India, right-sized** | Go ₹399 | Premium ₹149 (includes Music) | dropped | **₹548** (76% less) |
None of these routes involve sharing an account outside your household.
## Where shared seats fit in
Resellers such as GamsGo sell places in other people's group and family plans, and sometimes accounts bought at regional prices. According to an [August 2026 review by InsideVerdict](https://intercom.help/insideverdict/en/articles/16558646-gamsgo-review-2026-i-tested-it-features-and-pricing), GamsGo's ChatGPT access was running at about $5.00 to $6.37 a month and its YouTube Premium seats at about $6.49. On those figures, ChatGPT plus YouTube from GamsGo would come to roughly $11.50 to $13 a month, below even the student stack above. You can [check GamsGo's current prices across AI and streaming](https://gamsgo.sjv.io/vDOOGd), which vary with the term you pick.
The catch is what you are buying:
- **It often breaks the provider's rules.** Family plans are for one household, and OpenAI's Terms of Use (effective 1 January 2026, as [recorded by ConductAtlas](https://conductatlas.com/platform/openai/openai-terms-of-use/provision/CA-P-078680/no-account-sharing-or-transfer-to-others/)) say you "may not share your account credentials or make your account available to anyone else".
- **Seats can be cut off.** If the provider spots it, access is paused or removed and you depend on the reseller for a replacement.
- **Shared AI accounts are not private.** On a shared ChatGPT login, others can read your chat history. Never use one for work, health, money or personal matters.
- **Never use your main account.** Use a spare Google or Spotify account with a unique password. Our [data breach privacy checklist](/blog/2026-data-breaches-a-practical-privacy-checklist-for-tech-users) explains how to keep throwaway accounts separate.
[GamsGo's Trustpilot page](https://www.trustpilot.com/review/gamsgo.com) shows a 3.8 out of 5 score from around 19,100 reviews at the time of writing, with most buyers happy and a minority reporting seats that stopped early and slow refunds. Our full [GamsGo review](/blog/is-gamsgo-legit-shared-subscriptions-explained) goes through its refund rules in detail.
## Who should do what
**Everyone** should do steps 1 to 3: audit, remove overlaps, right-size. That is where most of the saving is, at no risk.
**Students and households** should use student and family plans before considering anything else. They are often as cheap as shared seats.
**Single adults with no discount** who want the lowest price on low-stakes services (video and music, not AI with private chats) might consider a shared seat on a spare account, one month at a time; [compare GamsGo's one-month terms](https://gamsgo.sjv.io/vDOOGd) before committing to anything longer.
**Skip shared seats** if you would use your main account, need the service to work every day, or would put anything private into a shared AI login.
## Our verdict
Subscription fatigue is mostly a stacking problem. Cutting overlaps, choosing lighter tiers and rotating video apps can halve most bills without touching a reseller, and that should always be your first move.
If you have done all that and still want to pay less on music or video, a shared seat is one more lever, as long as you know the trade-offs. **[See GamsGo's current subscription prices here](https://gamsgo.sjv.io/vDOOGd)**, start with a one-month term and keep your important accounts well away from it.
